Presentation by Royal Canadian Mint:

Minting with care through green innovation

Summary

The presentation discusses a case study of the green technology in our Bullion and Gold Refinery. This case study as one of the great examples demonstrates how the Royal Canadian Mint comes to Mint with Care through Innovations.

Miller Chlorination process has been used for gold refining to remove most of impurities for more than 150 years. The oxidizing agent Chlorine gas in this process is extremely toxic and dangerous at the workplace and to the environment. The Royal Canadian Mint has developed and implemented an alternative and green technology to have significantly reduced the use of Chlorine gas for gold refinery.

Speaker: Dr. Xianyao Li

Xianyao Li has been in different technical roles with the Royal Canadian Mint for 23 years, and he is now the Chief Technology Officer, responsible for research and development on new products, processes and technologies.
