A Golden Opportunity – How The Royal Mint is Recovering Precious Metals from Electronic Waste

Summary

Electronic waste is a global problem with over 50 Million tonnes of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) generated every year and this is growing.

In the UK alone over 2 Million tonnes of WEEE is  discarded each year and most of this waste is sent overseas to be burnt or sent to landfill.

The Royal Mint with it’s partners are implementing a project using innovative technology and engineering designs that will help address this issue in a sustainable way and provide recycled precious metals for use in our products at our site in Llantrisant.
